Through Spirit-inspired songs of the past and present, we encounter the amazing grace through which Christ sustained slaves and the redemptive potential of their suffering.
In every situation, God is present, in Christ, to reconcile people unto Himself, to redeem their suffering, and to use them to reveal a measure of His glory.
Through Songs of Redemption, we pray, worship, and seek at least a glimpse of the glory God placed in the hearts of slaves. We do not avoid the ugly reality of our past. As God did not forsake Christ, but attended to Him through His suffering, so was He with the slaves.
We gather to allow the Spirit of God to open our eyes and hearts to the glory that was in our African-American ancestors' hearts. We need to discover, and uncover the vital redemptive purpose God ordained for African-Americans, and to allow HIs redemptive miracle to happen in our own hearts. As they did, we too can sing the Songs of Redemption.
